Learning

The Learning Programme focused on providing an inclusive, joined-up approach to design, enterprise, talent incubation and retention. The programme aimed to establish an environment in which Scotland’s outstanding design talent is supported and nurtured.

A range of initiatives were developed, aimed primarily at students, the business community and, most importantly, the inhabitants of the six cities. Key partners in each city developed bespoke activities including practical workshops and public events:

·      Invisible Glasgow- a programme focussing on following an object’s journey from ‘lovely new product’ to ‘litter and landfill’.

·      Little people big Ideas - a response to the theme ‘Design for and by Young people and Children’ in partnership with Baker Street Nursery pupils and staff to engage with designers exploring design ideas for their building/space.

·      MPSix - an alternative city guide podcast created by and for young people in each city.

These projects and others drew together the involvement of young people and children in a variety of design projects with the Public Programme of events. They stimulated new networks between education, the local community and visitors to the Six Cities Design Festival and developed new audiences with a better understanding of the value and potential of design.

Additionally the Learning Programme worked nationally throughout Scotland in partnership with key organisations and initiatives such as the Cultural Enterprise Office – developing a range of free start up master classes and seminars for seed creative Industry businesses, and NESTA on Starter for Six – a project to provide training and start-up grants for the next generation of Scottish entrepreneurs.
