Festival Highlights in Inverness

During the main Festival period, 17 May - 3 June, Inverness was brimming with design-minded walks, talks, tours, exhibitions and happenings.

An exhibition from the Museum of Finnish Architecture in Helsinki, New, Old, Green, delved into the world of sustainable architecture. Inspiring and a true eye-opener, New, Old, Green demonstrated how contemporary architecture can minimise the negative environmental impact of buildings and create healthier communities.

Bringing the theme of sustainable design closer to home, the Six Cities Design Festival exhibition Greenhouse/Blackhouse exhibited top submissions to the Highland Housing Fair competition, which collected designs for a new eco-community in Inverness from UK architects. The winning designs have been selected and are now on view at http://www.scottisharchitecture.com.

The Inverness Museum and Art Gallery was host to two Festival exhibitions, This One Feels Just Right, which celebrated chair design, and HomeRoom, which put contemporary Highland design in the spotlight.

A fashion show exhibiting work by Highland designers proved to be an incredible evening, as was our Designer Double Bill talk with Wayne Hemingway and brothers Alasdair & Neil Stephen of the Isle of Skye architecture firm Dualchas.
