Festival Highlights in Stirling

During the main Festival period, 17 May - 3 June, Stirling was brimming with design-minded walks, talks, tours, exhibitions and happenings.

The historic Cowane’s Hospital in Stirling proved to be a beautifully unique space for Dimensions of Design: 100 Classic Chairs, a flagship Festival exhibition from the Vitra Design Museum. Presenting one hundred miniature chairs, crafted to a scale of 1:6, this exhibition provided the compactness and clarity needed to trace key developments in international design and to gain insight into a wide variety of styles. Families celebrated the exhibition with Stirling’s biggest ever game of musical chairs and design workshops at the macrobert.

Families also had the chance to roll up their sleeves and get creative at Adventures in Design, a family-friendly day of practical design workshops for the whole community.

DIY: Design it Yourself was a hit exhibition at The Changing Room gallery in Stirling. Tracing the highly personal approach to design work done by the music industy, this exhibition featured amazing record sleeve art, concert posters, badges and ephemera.
DIY tied in nicely with our incredible Designer Double Bill talk in Stirling with Peter Saville, designer and founding member of the landmark independent record label Factory Records and Robert Johnston, founder of the Glasgow-based design company Pause Button Edit.
