This event was part of the Six Cities Design Festival programme in 2007.

This unique exhibition looks at the history of the natural world in interior design. It is co-curated by two of Scotland's leading designers, and has been specifically conceived for DCA for the Six Cities Design Festival. Peacocks Among the Ruins brings together examples of historical and contemporary wallpaper, textiles and objects, by a diverse range of designers from around the globe. The exhibits were selected by Timorous Beasties, the Glasgow-based design duo whose own projects include a dramatic reinterpretation of early 18th century Toile de Joey wallpaper. This exhibition presents a history of interior design according to Timorous Beasties' own particular world-view, highlighting how the flora and fauna of our natural environment has consistently been used to create a backdrop within the home. The Six Cities Design Festival's Learning programme has created an activity pack in response to this exhibition. Aimed at 8-12 year olds, the Peacocks Among the Ruins Fun Kit invites young people to seek inspiration from different objects, and design their own wallpaper. Designed for use at home or in the classroom, you don't need to have seen the exhibition to enjoy the activities in the kit. You can pick up your free Fun Kit at the Peacocks Among the Ruins exhibition and the Dundee Festival Information Point, or Download it here (format: pdf 1.5mb)
