Learning
Like everything else in the Six Cities Design Festival, the Learning Programme has big ambitions and big ideas. With activities aimed at the inhabitants of the six cities, students and the business community, we aspire to work throughout Scotland and encourage an inclusive joined-up approach to learning, enterprise, talent incubation and retention.
We believe the Scottish designers of the future deserve the best start in their careers. We want to help to establish an environment in which the outstanding design talent in this country is supported and nurtured, and we aim to develop a range of initiatives in partnership with key organisations to do just that. We hope the programme will enhance existing design networks, as well as building a learning platform with a focus on design enterprise, innovation, creative entrepreneurship and business knowledge.
The list of activities in the Learning Programme will be available over the coming months, but will cover a range of areas from practical workshops and masterclasses, seminars and public events, to engaging with educational authorities and organisations, and working directly with the design industry. We will support Scotland’s new and upcoming designers, giving them the opportunity to gain and develop new skills.
Our work will highlight the importance, and tackle the issue, of enterprise alongside creativity, as well as find new ways to excite and enthuse our young people, showing them that design is an interesting, varied and ultimately rewarding career path. Alongside this we intend to award and showcase the best of Scotland’s new talent.
Ultimately we aim to ensure the Learning Programme will create a legacy that can be developed by Six Cities and its partners to ensure that Scotland will continue to grow as a place for innovative and successful design.
