Let's monkey around!

To launch the Festival's main period of events, legendary designer Stefan Sagmeister brought six, 30-foot inflatable monkeys to all six of Scotland's cities on 17-18 May. The monkeys had a final outing 1-2 June to close the Festival in style.

In case you missed the monkey madness when it was in full swing, the monkey project was will be included in Sagmeister's forthcoming book, Things I Have Learned in My Life So Far. Photographing text made from a variety of materials and objects, Sagmeister has documented statements from his diary. The inflatable monkeys in Scotland each held a word; together the words spelled out a statement from Sagmeister's diary, 'Everybody Always Thinks They Are Right.'

The invasion of Stefan Sagmeister's 30-foot inflatable monkeys is over, but the project lives on. The monkeys will be making guest appearances at several international events, including Art Basel Miami Beach. You can still download a Sagmeister monkey mask, designed by illustrator Monika Aichele and brought to you by the Six Cities Design Festival Learning programme.
